Walking with Leicester Ramblers
Our groups help local people enjoy walking and protect the places we all love to walk. Most groups organise regular walks led by local experts – a great way to get outside, make new friends and discover how walking boosts your health and happiness. You’re very welcome to try walking with us.
Leicester Group organises a variety of walks:
- Tuesday 4 miles (leisurely) and 6 miles (moderate) and Thursday 6 miles (moderate) Every Tuesday and Thursday mornings – 5.5-6.5 mile walks starting at 10am with optional pub lunch. We try to plan walks so that the starting points do not clash so that walkers can enjoy 2 similar length walks in the same week but from different parts of the area. We have also introduced some slightly shorter walks most Tuesdays and occasional Thursdays starting from the same point to encourage new walkers or those recovering from illness etc.
- Wednesday 8-10 miles starting at 10am (moderate) currently once a month. These are a recent addition to our programme and will be reviewed to see if there is sufficient demand. Bring your own packed lunch.
- Wednesday evenings 4 miles (moderate) (weekly May - July) approximately 4 miles in length starting at 7pm
- Thursday all day 12 miles (moderate)– longer walks between 10-12 miles (slightly longer in summer) starting at 9.30am unless otherwise stated bring your own packed lunch
- Friday 'Car Free' Walks - moderate walks using trains and buses to and from Leicester city centre
- Saturday All-Day Walks 14 miles (every Saturday) – longer and more strenuous walks usually outside Leicestershire
- Sunday All-Day Walks 10 miles walks at a moderate pace starting at 10.00am. These take place every Sunday the only exception being when we run a Coach Ramble - see below
- Sunday and Wednesday Coach Rambles - we plan to run at least 2 Sunday and 2 Wednesday coach rambles per year. Different grades of walks will be offered and they will be to places of interest even if you don't wish to walk.
- Dogs are not permitted on any of our walks.
- Children accompanied by a parent or guardian are welcome.
- All walks have morning and afternoon coffee breaks.
- Most full day walks usually have a lunch stop at a pub, and are not really suitable for young children, but accompanied older children are welcome.
- All walks are open to the public, though you would be expected to join the Ramblers after taking part in three.
- If you are new to the Ramblers, you will be welcomed on any of our walks; the coach rambles in particular are a good day out with a choice of walks, a lunch stop and provide an excellent introduction to the camaraderie of our Group.
- For most walks you can just turn up, although as starting points can be changed at short notice it is recommended that you contact the walk leader to check time and meeting point. You will also need to book a place on the coach for coach rambles.
