SUE FORSYTHE                               Role - Membership Secretary and Area Representative

Sue Forsythe profile picI have always walked. On family holidays to the Mid-Wales coast, Dad would drive us up a hill to the end of the road. Then we would all get out of the car and walk to the top of the hill. In my teens I hiked on school trips and with my local youth club, which continued at university. Ian (husband) and I generally just walked by ourselves, often in Derbyshire, but we’ve done the West Highland Way and The Ridgeway. We joined the Ramblers to support an organisation which promotes Rights of Way. Once retired we joined the local group and have enjoyed getting to know like-minded walkers and the Leicestershire countryside. I usually walk on Sundays, sometimes the half-day Thursday and I convene the Wednesday 8-10 mile walks.

I worked in Education, first as a classroom teacher and later in Teacher Education. There I served as the Chair of the East Midlands branch of the joint mathematics teachers’ associations and the Treasurer of the British Society for Research into teaching Mathematics. So, I have a habit of joining committees. At first, I worked with Ian as Secretary before taking on the Membership role when Ray stepped down. As Membership Secretary I have access to the Insight Hub which produces lots of EXCEL spreadsheets and graphs - I’m in hog’s heaven! My other interests include playing the bass recorder in a consort, and knitting and sewing.

Favourite Topics for Rambling Conversations: Anything…. OK if pressed, then – campervanning.

History on the Committee: Joint Secretary (with Ian) for two years, 2023-2024.
